Hiring: Technical Project Manager

POSITION SCOPE

The Technical Project Manager is responsible for planning, scheduling, and organizing technical application development and support teams to ensure the planned deliverables adhere to the timeline and scope from start to finish. Their duties include planning work in detail and coordinating tasks / timelines to achieve project and business objectives.

The ideal Technical Project Manager will possess a firm understanding of technical topics and have a background with technical development projects. They will possess the skills to effectively organize cross-functional teams and structure projects using Project Management Process (PMP), Waterfall, or Agile methods (according to project needs) and implement industry best practices to optimize delivery performance.

This role will oversee a portfolio of technical projects from intake to delivery to ongoing support, with a focus on quality, business outcomes and timely delivery. The ideal candidate will strategically demonstrate problem-solving skills while supporting the team to ensure delivery is focused and solving the right problems or goals. They will bring their industry knowledge to improve project planning and resource management.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages technical application projects of varying complexity, priority, or deadline from concept to completion, as well as ongoing maintenance and support.
  • Manages active work, backlog, risks, and resource assignments according to estimates, priority, dependencies, and availability. Collects estimates to understand effort and translates into schedule or project timeline.
  • Collaborates with technical and business teams to prioritize workstreams according to level of effort, requirements, and scope; clarifies tradeoffs and recommended options if changes or alternative solutions are needed.
  • Translates technical concepts to peers, management, or leadership.
  • Creates and analyzes project documentation, such as task breakdown/acceptance criteria, project timelines, resource management reporting, risk logs, scopes, or status updates; defines clear deliverables and project process documentation for projects or initiatives. Facilitates reviews of each deliverable within projects.
  • Measures and reports on progress against goals, communicating project health to leadership, stakeholders, and project teams.
  • Actively engages cross-discipline teams to troubleshoot, clarify, confirm priorities, or communicate progress during all project phases; provides input on recommended approaches.
  • Collaborates with Business Analyst on business requirements or goals; converts requirements to actionable tasks for the development team.
  • Leads regular technical team meetings or Standups to gauge progress/health and address any questions or challenges regarding projects; escalates issues, risks, or changes accordingly.
  • Coordinate with QA and Engineering to ensure that the baseline criteria are met before stakeholder review and approval.
  • Proactively identifies challenges or lack of clarity early to help course-correct; assists with mitigation planning to remove obstacles and escalates in a timely manner.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Excellent understanding of technical project management practices to drive towards successful project outcomes and efficiencies.
  • Strong communication skills. Ability to clarify and relay complex, technical concepts appropriately based on audience, through verbal or written communication.
  • Firm understanding of technical terminology, processes, and topics.
  • High problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to understand how system ecosystems fit together.
  • Attention to detail and ability to break down complex requests into meaningful tasks.
  • Experience leading and building relationships with multidisciplinary teams such as back-end engineers, DevOps, business stakeholders, Business Analysts, and QA.
  • Ability to handle prioritization conflict or changes inside complex engagements or support teams.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, computer sciences, technology, related degree, OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience planning, coordinating or managing technical application/IT/software development projects within a client-focused environment.
  • Experience with Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, and Kanban project management methodologies and organizational tools such as requirements grooming, demos, standups, or retrospectives.
  • Understanding of emerging technologies, terminology, processes, languages, and platforms.
  • Experience working with a variety of project management tools including Jira, Confluence, Microsoft Teams, Monday, or equivalent tools.
