Submission Guidelines...

Andrews McMeel Publishing, LLC (AMP), a division of Andrews McMeel Universal, is a leading publisher of general nonfiction trade books, gift books and humor books, publishing as many as 300 new titles annually. AMP is also the premier calendar publisher in the country, annually publishing calendars based on many top-selling properties.

We're always looking for new authors and new book ideas.

Before submitting your manuscript, you should first familiarize yourself with Andrews McMeel Publishing and the types of books we publish. When proposing a book, please consider whether it is a good fit for us.

We prefer and give preference to submissions that come from literary agents. However, if you have been unable to find representation, we will consider your work if you follow the procedures described in this notice.

How To Submit a Manuscript to Andrews McMeel Publishing, LLC

As a first step to submitting a manuscript, we recommend that you send (to the address below) a book proposal consisting of:

  • A cover letter describing the work as a whole. Include all information that you think we should have in order to make a decision about your project. In particular, tell us who your target audience is and provide a rationale for why we are the best publisher for your work.
  • An outline of the entire work and an estimate of the length of the prospective manuscript.
  • One or two sample chapters. It is not necessary to send the entire manuscript, just enough material to give us a sense of the work as a whole.
  • A brief bio describing who you are and why you are the right person to write this book.
  • Your schedule to complete the book.
  • Handwritten letters and/or submissions will not be considered.
  • Please be sure that your name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address are on the manuscript and that your name is on the back of each piece of art.
  • A self-addressed, stamped envelope of the correct size to contain your work with sufficient postage for the return of all of your material. Without this, we cannot return your materials to you. If you do not need your materials returned, please include an envelope with a 39-cent stamp for our reply.

Please do NOT send originals of anything. We are not liable for artwork or manuscript submissions.

In receiving a submission, we do not assume any duty not to publish a book based on a similar idea, concept or story. We will not consider manuscripts that are currently on submission to another publisher.

We receive a number of email queries and submissions every day. We cannot dedicate time to read each and every one of them, and the vast majority of email submissions do not get read. We do not respond to queries submitted through this web site.

Thank you for your interest in Andrews McMeel Publishing. We look forward to reading your proposal soon.
