These are some of the stories of the millions of cats and dogs (and rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, birds...) who wind up in our animal shelters each year. They are stories about the innocent animals who patiently wait for a home, the dedicated workers who devote such care to them, and the kindhearted people who adopt them. They are stories of past cruelty, survival, sacrifice, hope, salvation — and joy.
The cartoon stories were created by me for my comic strip MUTTS. The others are real stories with photographs, told in the words of proud animal guardians. These are family photos — candid, honest, relaxed — taken by a trusted loved one. Just look at these companion animals. These are the lucky ones. Look into their eyes. When you take away their stories all that is left is unconditional love, staring its noble face right back at you. And that's the whole story.
Adopt some love today.
