College is an exciting time for young adults to learn, experiment, and grow as individuals. In Watch Your Head, the first comic strip collection from Cory Thomas (Andrews McMeel Publishing, LLC, $12.95), collegiate personalities realize that sometimes learning who you are takes more guts than glory.
Throughout the collection, freshman Cory confronts many challenges inherent in his Oliver Otis University environment, including finding his intelligence challenged by a super-genius monkey (who copies his tests and still gets better grades); navigating the complicated world of women (relying on his good friend Omar to guide him); and coping with a self-absorbed, disrespectful roommate. Through an ethnically diverse cast of characters and his authentic and amusing depiction of classic college crises, Thomas creates a world to which any college student or graduate can relate and enjoy. Best of all, readers can reminisce about their adventurous days in the dorm, without actually having to endure them again.
Cory Thomas grew up in San Fernando, Trinidad. In 1998, he accepted a full academic scholarship to Howard University to study mechanical engineering. He graduated magna cum laude in 2002 and earned his master’s degree in 2003. During this time, he became an illusrator at Howard University’s newspaper, the Hilltop, where the earliest versions of Watch Your Head originated. Today, Thomas works from his home just outside of Washington DC.
