"There was once a girl who had secured for herself a relationship of considerable consequence."

When you find the perfect person, the one that you want to spend the rest of your life with, you know. But what happens after that? Too often people become lazy and let their love dwindle from rapt delight to disinterest. Emma Magenta's A Gorgeous Sense of Hope: A Love Fable (Andrews McMeel Publishing, $9.95) examines the path to lasting love with a delightful story and unpretentious illustrations. But don't let the simplistic drawings fool you. Magenta's inventive, offbeat art speaks volumes and conveys real emotion.

The marvelous character from The Peril of Magnificent Love is back, continuing her "pursuit for divine union." She has found true love with someone who shares the same interests, sense of humor, and adores her for exactly who she is. After finding this absolute happiness, the couple settles into complacency, and through a metaphoric change of seasons, find that their love is becoming commonplace. Determined not to let their romance fade into obscurity, the girl goes on an expedition to reclaim the excitement that they felt when their love was new.

"She became a cartographer of the heart."

With the divorce rate in this country reaching nearly 50% of all marriages, the necessity of redefining a lasting relationship is more important than ever. The term "relationship maintenance" has become a standard for every couple that wants to try to make things work. Unwilling to give up on fading love, more and more people turn to the Emma Magenta likes of Dr. Phil to make weak connections even stronger than before. For all these perpetual romantics, or for anyone feeling overwhelmed by doubt, Emma Magenta's profound and buoyant prose will inspire and offer encouragement to all lovers.
