The world of technology-driven communication has created a new language that begs for definition. Aaron Peckham founded the website that defined a generation when he started Urban Dictionary in 1999. In 2006, about fifty million people visited the site, with one third of those visitors hailing from outside the United States. Every day in 2006, Urban Dictionary visitors sent in an average of 1,700 definitions. Altogether, Urban Dictionary defines about 500,000 terms. The Oxford English Dictionary, 2nd edition defines about 600,000 terms.
