Jump into the adventures of life at Elderpark, a retirement home owned by Jujitsu Heavy Industries, a global warehousing firm based in Hong Kong. It isn't just Elderpark that has interesting origins — its residents do as well. There's Dusty, the rebellious and independent cowboy; the Professor who knows his culture, if only he could remember it; Evelyn, the sweet but passive-aggressive lady who enjoys guilt tripping her children; Ludmilla, the Russian housekeeper who still calls everyone Komrade, and many more in The Elderberries: A Cartoon Collection (Andrews McMeel Publishing, LLC, $12.99) by Phil Frank and Joe Troise.
Both fans and first time readers will delight in the many mishaps the characters encounter, from Dusty's struggles with technology to an elaborate scheme to make a prescription drug run up to Canada.
The Elderberries is an entertaining and insightful look at retired life that can be appreciated by both sides of the generation gap. At Elderpark, you're never too old to have fun.
Artist Phil Frank and writer Joe Troise launched The Elderberries in 2004. Their collaboration represents twenty-one years of producing humorous illustrations and cartoons for a variety of national publications. In 2007, Joe Troise retired from writing the strip and, sadly, Phil Frank passed away from brain cancer. Their partnership leaves a legacy of satiric wit, luminous talent, and a cast of characters for future readers of The Elderberries.
