Jan and Carlyn Berghoff

Carlyn Berghoff, great-granddaughter of Berghoff founder Herman Joseph Berghoff, went into business for herself in 1986. She graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, and has a degree in hospitality management from Florida International University in Miami. Carlyn's catering company, Artistic Events by Carlyn Berghoff Catering, now operating out of the old Berghoff Restaurant at 17 West Adams Street in Chicago's Loop, served more than 100,000 meals in 2006. Carlyn's clients include U.S. presidents, international heads of state, national and local government officials, and celebrities in sports and entertainment. She also runs the Berghoff Cafe at O'Hare International Airport and 17/west at the Berghoff, a bar and restaurant, The Berghoff Family Cookbook: From Our Table to Yours, Celebrating a Century of Entertaining where she serves the best of the Berghoff classics along with new European dishes. Carlyn can also be found operating the cafe on the lower level of 17/west and hosting private events from the Century Room.

Jan Berghoff, the wife of third-generation Herman Berghoff and the mother of Carlyn, owned and ran the Berghoff Restaurant with her husband until February 2006. Herman was the business and management arm, and Jan was involved in the food and menu development. From 1973 to 1983, Jan and Herman owned and ran the highly successful Tosi's restaurant in Stevensville, MI. They returned to Chicago in 1986 to buy and run the Berghoff.
